An injury to the brain can affect people in different ways. It can be difficult to understand these difficulties and know how to best support a person with a brain injury.

Dr Delaney is a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist with 13 years of qualified experience in neuropsychological rehabilitation in both the NHS and private sector.

She completed the British Psychological Society’s Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology in 2016, obtaining further knowledge and experience of working with a range of neurological presentations and is on the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists.

Dr Delaney provides neuropsychological therapies to people living with long term neurological conditions including TBI, Stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurodegenerative conditions. She has a particular focus on supporting the wider family unit and systems around her clients.

She actively encourages working in liaison with the wider multidisciplinary therapy team, to create a joined-up approach to goal setting, treatment, and maximising rehabilitation potential. Her aim is to provide values and goal-based therapies, to help clients achieve a purposeful and meaningful life.

Dr Delaney is also co-director of a social enterprise, Neuro In Nature CIC. The aim of this non-profit organisation is to increase access to neuropsychological therapies, while delivering them in outdoor environments proven to support regulation of the nervous system.

Ryan is an occupational therapist, who qualified from the University of Salford in 2014 with a 1st Class Honours Degree.

He has since worked for case management and private occupational therapy companies before establishing Heads Up Therapies in 2016.

Ryan and the team at Heads Up, primarily work with individuals with acquired brain injuries attempting to provide community integration, build engagement in meaningful activities and improve quality of life.

Ryan enjoys thinking outside the box and creating unique opportunities such as hosting an axe throwing event for people with brain injuries. He also runs a brain injury football club, providing an alternate rehabilitation experience through the use of football as well as providing a much-needed social network.

Ryan is originally from Salford and enjoys being an active member of the charity, Headway Salford, Trafford and North Manchester.

Ryan says, “We see it as our mission to embrace risk, as we accept the challenge of supporting a brain injury survivor to overcome the barriers that may be present when engaging in meaningful and purposeful activities.”

Outside of work Ryan enjoys playing and watching football, attending concerts and spending time with his wife and three children.

Dr. Peter Marshall is a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist with 29 years of experience of working within mental health services.

He initially trained as a medical doctor, before completing his specialist training in psychiatry. He has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist and Neuropsychiatrist for over 20 years in hospitals and in the community.

As a Neuropsychiatrist, Peter assesses and treats the symptoms following traumatic brain injury, such as irritability, fatigue and disturbed sleep.

He has an extensive experience of treating mental illness such as anxiety and depression which often follows a brain injury. His expertise lies in considering, recommending and prescribing medication, which often forms part of an individual’s rehabilitation.


Catherine Davies is a clinical specialist Speech and Language Therapist and director of SLT for Life.

She has over 23 years extensive experience of working with complex communication and swallowing disorders in clients with acquired brain injury. Her initial career was in the NHS working in a neuro rehabilitation unit.

Catherine works across a large spectrum of deficits including clients with prolonged disorders of consciousness up to very subtle higher level language deficits and changes to social skills.
The areas Catherine specialises in are aphasia, dysarthria, dyspraxia, dysphagia, voice disorders, cognitive communication disorder and social communication impairment.

Catherine provides highly specialist assessment and bespoke therapy programmes for clients in the independent sector and works closely with solicitors, case managers and the wider MDT.

Catherine provides up to 10 expert witness assessments per year.

Catherine provides clinical supervisor and training.

Her aim is to empower clients to progress and increase their independence.

Colin specialises in working with clients with brain injury who may struggle to engage with therapy programmes. Indeed, his MSc dissertation looked into the factors in the relationship between therapist and brain injured client that led to the best clinical outcomes.

Physio Matters employ 16 people including a business support team that coordinate treatment and take the strain off clients, carers and case managers as they negotiate the rehabilitation journey after injury
